Bio
Julie has dabbled in jewelry making since the early 90's. However, her focus had been stone sculpting at that time, so jewelry making was more of a hobby than a passion. That all changed, once she discovered Precious Metal Clay (PMC).
PMC enabled Julie to transfer some of her skills from sculpting, to the jewelry making arena, allowing her to work on a much smaller scale. No more stone dust, noisy pneumatic tools, respirators! While Julie still loves stone sculpting, and admires the medium and the work of many sculptors, it's taken a back seat to jewelry making.
Julie's work continues to evolve, as she masters this medium. She enjoys the melding of the two worlds, and gets great satisfaction incorporating unusual stones into most of her work. She's always on the look-out for interesting, typically abstract looking stones that lend themselves to distinctive, individual pieces of wearable art. She never make molds, hence, each piece is truly unique. While she is self-trained in both sculpting and jewelry making, she has taken classes in stone sculpting, traditional metal-smithing and has completed all three levels of certification in PMC. Her goal the last few years has been to continue to experiment with PMC and focus on getting some of her work published. The publications that her work has been included in appear below.
Julie has a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology. She divides her time as a Medical Social Worker and Jewelry Artist.
